People keep saying, "I've got this great idea for an app. I've got this great idea for a framework." But these statements remain only ideas. Those people spend months writing down ideas about the software but never actually writing the software itself. Kevlin Henney says the moment you start forming your idea, you'll discover a million things about it you never would have thought of. Stop wasting time imagining what your product might be and start realizing it.

What do customers want? Well, they want everything. Customers try to give the solutions, but you need to understand their problems. So you have to figure out what they need. Pollyanna Pixton talked about how you can go about finding what will truly bring your customers value.

How many testers are so concerned with their product's quality that they seek out direct feedback from users? At least one: Jon Bach, director of live-site quality at eBay. Not to get ahead of myself, but later in his presentation Jon shared some eBay user feedback he regularly wades through, and while some was quite descriptive about glitches observed, much of it was basically what you'd expect. One comment said "SITE IS FINE—PROVIDED IT WORKS" (yes, in all caps), and another simply said "please stop!!!!!!!!" (yes, with eight exclamation points). But if it could potentially be a bug-related issue, the comment is investigated.

David Dang, with Zenergy Technologies Inc., led the engaging session "Mobile Testing Tools 101." There were some technical issues to begin with and the screen wasn't working, but David jumped right in and started his presentation without the aid of his slides.

I'll be honest: I attended this session for its fun title. However, presenter David Silk told everyone early on that the legal department at Warner Brothers, which owns Hanna-Barbera Productions now, wouldn't let him use the copyrighted cartoon images of their prehistoric and futuristic characters. Boo.

Lloyd Roden, with Lloyd Roden Consultancy, first stated the obvious to the standing-room only audience: He's a Brit. The accent gave it away.

There was a pretty full house for the first keynote session of the STAREAST conference, "Testing in a Test-Driven World," with Jeff Payne. Delegates who couldn't get chairs sat on the floor in the back of the room, taking notes on their laptops and in their program guides.
